New Bed

Ever since XH turned one month old, he has been sleeping in the same room and same bed as us. I know it is very dangerous to let a newborn sleep beside two clumsy dinosaurs but we were just too tired to carry him into his cot after hours and hours of coaxing. Sometimes when we thought we have finally managed to get him into his dream land, he will wake up crying again the moment he sensed that his pyjamus has touched the cot's mattress. Even if we succeeded in transferring him back to his cot before we turned in, he will still end up in our bed in the middle of the night for feeding. After which, he will not be brought back to his cot because either i was too tired, or I fell asleep together with him during the mid-night feed....

As he grows older and older, we realised that it is not as difficult to get him to sleep at night as before. He will automatically be set into the 'sleep' mode the moment we switch off the lights and stop talking . But we also find it more and more difficult to get him to sleep on his own cot. He doesn't mind staying in his cot to play for a while, but he will expect himself to be carried out of the cot once we turn the lights off. Even if we carried him into his cot after he fell asleep on our bed, he will end up crying in the middle of the night asking to be carried back to the bed... he will carry his pillow and branklet, stand by the side of the cot and cry "myme-mee, chu-qu!"....

I think he's afraid of being left alone in the cot, especially when he couldn't get out of it himself. But as XH grows bigger and taller each day, we realised that our king size bed can no longer put up for the three of us. It has gave way twice and both daddy and mummy couldn't sleep well due to XH constant switching of his position at night...

After dragging for a few weeks, we finally converted his baby cot into a toddler bed and placed it by the side of our bed. He was kaypo-ing around with the tools and screws when we were fixing. But he was very excited when he saw the end product (after I placed his his mattress and pillows on the bed)...

Last night, we have no problem getting him to sleep on his own bed!! I have a sudden sense of relief - my boy has grown up and is now old enough to sleep on his own on his own bed (although still in the same room as us). I am very happy when I sleep last night. It's the kind of sleep that I have not been getting for almost two years!!
